Step 2 of 4

Route: how much process does it need?

Your answers from step 1 set the route. The route decides who signs off, and how closely steps 3 and 4 are reviewed.

Pick one route
Route ASelf-directedWhenJust you, public or internal data, and nothing decided about other people.Who decidesYou.
Route BLight reviewWhenA team tool or pilot that others will rely on, using internal data.Who decidesYour unit lead, with the Strategic Compass screen.
Route CFormal reviewWhenIt needs funding or staff time beyond one person, touches confidential or restricted data, or shapes decisions about people.Who decidesThe full Strategic Compass review.

If any formal-review condition applies, it’s formal review.

Come back here when it grows

Prototypes become production systems without anyone deciding they should. Any one of these sends the project back to this step.

  1. 01New usersPeople beyond the group it was built for start relying on it.
  2. 02More sensitive dataIt connects to data at a higher level than before.
  3. 03Funding or staff timeIt needs a budget, hosting or more than one person’s time.
  4. 04Decisions about peopleIts output starts to shape grades, aid, advising or hiring.

With the Strategic Compass

The AI Strategic Compass from the Campus AI Framework screens and scores initiatives. Its review band points to a route. When the band and the data level disagree, follow the stricter one.
